Ingredient Spotlight – Savory Choice Broth Concentrates

There’s nothing like homemade broth, however most of us have neither the time nor the spoons to make it from scratch. This can pose quite a problem for those following the low FODMAP diet as almost all commercially produced broth contains alliums (onion and garlic). Fortunately I discovered that Savory Choice makes at least two broth concentrates that are made without onion and garlic – beef and chicken. They offer other flavors but I have not checked to make sure they are low FODMAP. (Please note that the Vegetable flavor is not low FODMAP, though they did offer a low FODMAP version at one time.)

Not only is this great news for folks on restricted diets, but it is a nice departure from broth that is typically seasoned for use in Western cooking. For example when cooking different Asian cuisines, it isn’t always desirable to use pre-seasoned broth that contain herbs or vegetables. This broth concentrate is neutral and can be seasoned in any fashion, making it very popular with folks who cook international cuisines.

The broth concentrate sticks are very easy to use. Each pouch is mixed with 1 cup of water to form a broth. That’s it. You can also add it directly to certain dishes to boost flavor.

You can find this product available online at a certain internet retail giant among other places.
